What does the MCSO Explorers do?
The Explorer program is a program for youth between 14-20 years of age. Explorers have the opportunity to learn the profession of Law Enforcement before becoming an actual Law Enforcement Officer. Explorers are trained by Sheriff Deputies on how to write various reports to how a felony traffic stop is conducted.
Explorers are also trained by Detention Officers (D.O.'s) These people are the people who supervise inmates in the county jails. Explorers are able to tour the jail facilities, learn how to book someone into jail, and they learn how to handle people within the jail (Explorers are NOT permitted to work with the inmates at any time).
Explorers are also trained by the Tactical Operations Unit (T.O.U.) and they teach the Explorers things from how to walk tactically to how to serve a search and arrest warrant.
We strongly encourage you to give the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office Explorers a shot. Give us a call, I guarantee you will enjoy and have fun while being a MCSO Explorer.
Do I need to let someone know I will be attending my first Explorer meeting?
Yes, you will need to notify the Explorer Recruiting Sergeant by leaving a message on the Explorer Information Hotline at 602-876-1778.
